Stream: John Williams’ score for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

on December 18, 2015, 10:55am

No return to a galaxy far, far away would be complete without the accompaniment of the legendary composer John Williams. His main title theme for the Star Wars films is as iconic as any piece of film music in the last 50 years. So when it came time to score Star Wars: The Force Awakens, of course there was only one man for the job

“I’ve loved doing the Star Wars films with all their fanfares and flourishes,” Williams says. “I actually feel as though I am still in the galaxy far, far away. I really never left it, having worked on all of the films. I’m happy to be continuing to be part of the whole fun of doing it.”

For the first time, Williams recorded the score in the US, having penned all the other entries with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. This time, he based operations in Los Angeles and called upon the freelance players he typically works with on other film jobs. “This is new. This is different,” he says. “But it’s wed perfectly with the corpus of what Star Wars is.”

Williams’ 23-piece score is streaming below via Spotify. It’s also available to purchase in digital, CD, and vinyl formats.
