Against all logic or reason, Lip Sync Battle, the TV series spun out of a late-night talk show segment, returned for a second season last night. For all the silliness of the concept, the series delivered a heck of a season debut episode, as Channing Tatum and his wife, Jenna Dewan Tatum, went toe-to-toe for a battle that ended on a pretty epic note.
The final round kicked off with Dewan getting raunchy to “Pony” by Ginuwine, turning every item on the tool-laden set into a phallic symbol. (Just check out LL Cool J’s face as unsuccessfully he tries to hide his arousal while standing next to Dewan’s husband.) But you knew the gloves were off when Tatum came riding in on a giant horse statue in feathery shoulder pads and a bra. Magic Mike himself turned in a spot-on performance of “Run the World (Girls)” by Beyoncé made all the more epic when the Queen Bey herself came out for the outro. The look on Dewan’s face — half stunned, half angry that her husband pulled off such a game-changing cameo — says it all.
Check it out below (Tatum’s performance begins around the 1:50 mark).
For the curious, the whole thing ended in a tie, with LL anointing the Tatum’s the first-ever Lip Sync Battle co-champs.
