Kendrick Lamar has been receiving all kinds of honors as of late. His latest album To Pimp A Butterfly captured the hearts of the everyone from David Bowie, to Barack Obama, to yours truly, leading to 11 Grammy nominations, a trip to the White House, and the top spot on our list of the 2015’s 50 best albums.
His latest accolade might be his most personal. Today, Aja Brown, the mayor of Kendrick’s hometown of Compton, announced that the rapper will receive a key to the city on February 13th. “Kendrick Lamar you inspire millions + rep Compton with honor!” Mayor Brown tweeted. “Excited to give you the key to the city!”
In addition to his musical achievements, Kendrick recently launched a mentoring campaign called “Pay it Forward.”
