As evidenced by his expert trolling of Ryan Adams and Q&A encores, Father John Misty’s Josh Tillman is so much more than a premier musician; he’s also a clever, incredibly self-aware jokester.

The funny man strikes again today, uploading a handful of what he describes as “rejected Pandora promos” to his SoundCloud account. There are seven of them as of this afternoon, and each one is funnier and more ridiculous than the last.

“When I was a child hiding from my parents under my bedsheets, radio used to be on the radio!” Tillman growls in one clip that sounds akin to those boisterous “Sunday Sunday Sunday!” Mega Monster Truck Rally commercials. “But now it’s on the Internet. Only from Pandora.”

Another promo plays out like sheer yet brilliant nonsense: “Whether you’re snorting rails of Tide off priceless Matisse cutouts or stuck at home because of your dismal Uber rating, my customized mixtape is guaranteed to be 100% Ed Sheeran. That’s Ed Sheeran all the time on Father John Misty radio.”

It’s unclear if these were actually passed on by the streaming platform; if they did, though, they are truly missing out on a great marketing opportunity.

Update – Thursday, January 7th at 3:15 p.m. CT: Turns out those “rejected Pandora promos” is part of a mixtape Father John Misty has curated in anticipation of his next tour. It includes eight tracks recorded during a past gig in London. Listen here.

Tillman’s last album as Father John Misty was I Love You, Honeybear, the 11th best album of 2015.
