Jessy Lanza announces new album, Oh No, premieres “It Means I Love You” — listen

on January 27, 2016, 1:04pm

Canada’s Jessy Lanza stormed the electropop scene in 2013 with her debut album, the Polaris Music Prize-nominated Pull My Hair Back. She’s looking to replicate that success with her follow-up, Oh No, which is expected to arrive this spring.

The LP was recorded in Hamilton, Ontario with Junior Boys’ Jeremy Greenspan, who also had a hand in co-producing Pull My Hair Back. In a statement, Lanza explained the connection between the album and her own personal abode.

“I became obsessed with surrounding myself with tropical plants,” she noted. “I’ve been convinced that the air quality in our house is slowly killing us. It might sound crazy but the plants have made a huge difference.” Hence the plants in the video and on the album cover.”

Ahead of the record’s May 13th release through Hyperdub, Lanza has let loose lead single “It Means I Love You”. More straightforward electronic than her usual pop/R&B offerings, it’s rife with pitch-shifted vocals, dirty percussion, and an entrancing build-up worthy of a jungle-set club. “If you want it, come and find my love,” she lures.
