The 11-track effort follows 2014’s excellent Manipulator and serves as the prolific garage rockers’s eighth studio record under his own name. (Just two months ago, he put out II, the latest record from his FUZZ project.)
This month marks Emotional Mugger’s official release on vinyl/cassette/CD/mp3 formats. Previously it was only available on — wait for it — VHS tapes, which were mailed out by Segall’s label back in November. Those mysterious tapes included screenings of either 1993 film My Life or 1982’s Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
In lieu of interviews with press, Segall has shared cryptic passages associated with the LP, such as the following:
(what are they thinking)
guitars sliced with scribble
graffiti sprawled across the hemispheres;
stuttered, stunted, dual-mono machine dreams flashing sudden stereophobic and back again / two screens alone together
squeezing shaking oozing
metallic pool like brain blood,
slowly draining away
all mental life.
shaking ass / nihility at most corrodes
candy’s gone no more
