The Joy Formidable announce new album, Hitch, share “The Last Thing On My Mind” — watch

on January 26, 2016, 10:00am

Last July, The Joy Formidable emerged from hibernation with two gifts for their fans: an excellent cover of the Twin Peaks theme song, and news that a new album was on the horizon. Today, they’ve returned with details of that forthcoming LP. Titled Hitch, it’s slated for a March 25th release through the band’s own C’Mon Lets Drift/Caroline Records.

As The Joy Formidable told Consequence of Sound over the summer, the follow-up to 2013’s Wolf’s Law was recorded primarily in their Red Brick studio in North Wales. “We’ve taken our time, made something special,” they said at the time.

Our first taste of the new full-length comes courtesy of “The Last Thing On My Mind”. The lead single plays out like smoky rocker, and comes with its own booty-filled music video. Frontwoman Rhiannon “Ritzy” Bryan explained the concept behind both the track and clip:

“It’s a song about freedom, about feeling alive & a part of that is about sexual liberation too, which is why we wanted to make a music video from the perspective of a heterosexual female gaze. It shows men in many forms, being free, being sexy, being watched, it’s beautiful and provocative and is some small attempt to re-address the existing imbalance of perspective and nudity in music videos.”

Watch the visual below, followed by the album’s tracklist and the band’s upcoming tour schedule, which includes a US leg and a number of South American festival appearances.
