Johnny Depp to star in remake of The Invisible Man

on February 09, 2016, 10:55pm

Johnny Depp has signed on to star in Universal Picture’s upcoming reboot of The Invisible Man. The film, which is based on the 19th century H.G. Wells novel about a scientist who turns himself invisible, is said to be part of Universal’s newly launched classic monster universe.

The Invisible Man will be overseen by classic monster universe producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. Although a director has not yet been named, and a timetable for production has not yet been disclosed, sources say writer Ed Solomon (Men In Black, Now You See Me) has been tapped to handle the reboot.

Before Depp — Hollywood’s most overpaid actor last year — hits the big screen in The Invisible Man, he’ll appear in Alice Through the Looking Glass and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which are due out in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

The first film in Kurtzman and Morgan’s classic monster universe is a 2017 reboot of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise.
