Lana Del Rey’s “FREAK” video was inspired by Father John Misty taking acid at a Taylor Swift concert

on February 10, 2016, 1:54pm

Last night Lana Del Rey released her new video for “FREAK” starring Father John Misty’s J. Tillman. Throughout the video, the two take acid and hallucinate.

Following a screening in Los Angeles, Del Rey revealed that the video was inspired by Tillman’s own experiences with acid. “I had so much fun making this video inspired by his acid trip that he took in Topanga,” Del Rey explained, quickly adding, “Well that’s his story.” Turns out that story was was only partially true. “I took acid at a Taylor Swift concert,” Tillman responded. “I thought this was the best time to tell you.”

So there you have it, Del Rey’s “FREAK” video is the byproduct of Tillman taking acid at a T-Swift concert in Australia.

Below, watch Del Rey and Tillman discuss the video (thanks to Frank Mojica for the recording), and revisit the fruits of Tillman’s acid-fueled labor.
