This spring, Lush will embark on their first US tour in 20 years. The band won’t be hitting the road empty-handed, either. Today, the reunited alt rockers have announced plans to issue a new EP called Blind Spot on April 22nd. It serves as the first piece of fresh material since the 1996 single “500 (Shake Baby Shake)”.
Due out through their own Edamame label, Blind Spot was recorded last summer alongside producers Daniel Hunt of Ladytron and Jim Abbiss. It features four brand new tracks, including dreamlike opener “Out of Control”, which can be heard below via its accompanying Mark Anderson-directed visual.
Lush co-founder Miki Berenyi spoke about the EP:
“It certainly took some time to set up, but once we were in the studio, everything came together incredibly quickly. It was great fun! It’s been a long time since I’ve written Lush lyrics, and I realised early on with this EP that what I wrote about then is not what I feel comfortable writing about now. My perspective, and what is close to my heart, has changed, and I think that’s conveyed in the songs.”
Last month, Lush released a box set called Chorus containing 1990’s Gala, 1992’s Spooky, 1994’s Split, 1996’s Lovelife, and the 1996 Canadian B-sides collection Topolino. Previously, the band said that if all goes well with the EP, a new full-length might soon follow.
