R-rated version of Batman v Superman to be released

Hollywood loves a good trend, and it looks like studios have found a new one. With Deadpool well on its way to becoming the top grossing R-rated film of all time, there’s already talk that 20th Century Fox could aim for a similar ratings with future comic book flicks like Wolverine and X Force. And it’s just not just 20th Century Fox taking a more explicit route.

A new bulletin from the Motion Picture Association of America reveals that Warner Bros. is planning an R-rated version of its forthcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While the theatrical release will be rated PG-13, the film’s eventual DVD/Blu-ray will include an rated R “Ultimate Edition.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Jesse Eisenberg, and Gal Gadot, is set to hit theaters in one month’s time, March 25th. The DVD/Blu-ray release should follow later in the year. Watch the film’s third and final trailer below.
