Stream: Deadpool Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Junkie XL

on February 29, 2016, 2:15pm

Deadpool has been a success on nearly every level. Not only is it critically adored (certified fresh at 83% on Rotten Tomatoes), but it’s box office has it on track to become the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time. That makes the Merc with the Mouth bigger than Jesus Christ.

While loads of credit are obviously due to the film’s stars, director, and producers, let us not forget the man who gave all that balls-to-the-walls violence and humor the soundtrack to make it all come together, Junkie XL. Born Tom Holkenborg and Grammy-nominated for his remix work, Junkie XL has gained acclaim in recent years for his film scores. After working with Hans Zimmer on films like The Dark Knight ReturnsMan of Steel, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Holkenborg finally got a superhero (er, kinda) all to his own in Deadpool.

Holkenborg utilized a collection of vintage synths — including a clone ARP-2600 and sequencer, a JD-800, and an OB-Xa — modern electronics, and a good ol’ fashioned orchestra to create a “funky, arrogant, playful, violent music score for Deadpool.” Milan Records will release the soundtrack on March 4th, but you can listen to an early stream of all of Junkie XL’s original compositions, plus the wonderfully ridiculous “Deadpool Rap” by Teamheadkick, below.

Of course, there were plenty of non-original song selections that were a big part of Deadpool, as well. Who can forget the hilarious opening credits sequence set to “Angel of the Morning”, or Deadpool kicking arse to “Shoop”? Listen to these songs along with all the other classic hits from the film below.

Juice Newton – “Angel of the Morning”:

Salt-N-Pepa – “Shoop”:

Neil Sedaka – “Calendar Girl”:

DMX – “X Gon’ Give it to Ya”:

George Michael – “Careless Whisper”:
