March 4th sees the release of TOKiMONSTA’s (aka Jennifer Lee) new mini-album, Fovere. On the latest single, “Giving Up”, she sets out to prove that “live music can have a place in electronic music.”
“Giving Up”, a sneaking R&B bumper with head-spinning electronic flourishes, features a pair of musical guests one doesn’t normally associate with music created by computers. Jonny Pierce of The Drums provides smooth vocals for the song, while Lettuce bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes lays down a bass line that trips and slides all over the track.
“It was amazing working with Jonny,” Lee said of the collaboration in a press release. “To see that he was down to work with me in my realm of music just showed me how opened-minded and creative musicians have become. What he added to the song is far more than I could have asked for. Live music can have a place in electronic music. Erick (aka Jesus) is an amazing bassist. I was waiting for the right chance to have him on a track, and this one was it.”
