Tokyo Police Club announce new EP, share single “Not My Girl” — listen

on February 19, 2016, 3:00pm

Tokyo Police Club are marking the 10th anniversary of their debut EP, A Lesson in Crime, by releasing a pair of brand new ones. Due out April 8th and taking its name from a rather famous 1995 Smashing Pumpkins record, the first installment of the two-part series is called Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness (Part 1).

Recorded over a week in New York City, the effort came from the quartet “just capturing the moment and being ourselves,” said frontman Dave Monks in a press release. “It was this spontaneous feeling of, ‘These songs are rad, let’s put them out.’”

“We knew we didn’t want to work like we did on Forcefield, which was two-and-a-half years solidly writing and rehearsing while holed up in a studio in Toronto,” added drummer Greg Alsop. “And we all live in different places now, so a week in New York was our first attempt at experimenting with what happens if we all fly in to be in the same place and decide to work on music together.”

To sample the new tunes, TPC has shared “Not My Girl”, a crisp pop song with a chanting chorus that calls back the best of the band’s cadences. PR for the release calls Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness the band’s “tightest, brightest, and certainly raddest” collection of songs, and “Not My Girl” certainly affirms that notion. Check out the track below.

In support of the new EPs, TPC will hit the road beginning on April 18th in Boston. The 17-date trek focuses largely on the East Coast, will a smattering of shows in the Midwest and South. Find the complete itinerary below.
