YAWN frontman Adam Gil shares new single as Dam Gila, “What Fire” — listen

on February 23, 2016, 11:35am

Adam Gil has been making a name for himself over the last few years as the frontman of Chicago psych pop outfit YAWN. The band has released numerous efforts, including 2014’s Love Chills and last year’s Day Trip EP. But over the last year plus, Gil has been making another name for himself, operating a solo venture under the name Dam Gila. (See what he did there?)

Following 2014’s So Long, Leisure, Gil is returning to his Dam Gila persona with the forthcoming Face the Sun EP. As a fresh listen to the effort, he’s shared the new single “What Fire”. The track is a rousing expansion of his mainstay outfit’s sound, neo-tropical synth strains reverberating over bright percussion. Everything swells together as Gil’s voice rises high during a chorus that will get the blood pumping warmly through your heart. The lyrics may be a bit lovelorn, but they’re presented in an uplifting wave of optimism.

Take a listen below.

Face the Sun will be self-released on April 1st. Find the cover artwork below.
