Adele will make her first-ever festival headlining performance at Glastonbury

on March 18, 2016, 6:43pm

Adele has long expressed apprehension playing large scale music festivals, telling the BBC in 2011, “The thought of an audience that big frightens the life out of me.” However, in the five years since that interview she’s apparently had a change of heart, as this summer she’ll play the world’s largest music festival in Glastonbury.

The UK songstress announced her Glastonbury appearance during a gig at London’s O2 Arena this evening, telling the audience, “I wanted to do it last year but my record wasn’t ready. And to the people who say I am too boring to headline, you’re more fucking boring for moaning about me headlining.”

Adele joins previously announced Glastonbury headliners Coldplay and Muse, along with PJ Harvey and Jeff Lynne’s ELO, whose participation has also been confirmed. The full lineup is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Glastonbury 2016 is set for June 22nd – 26th in Pilton, England.

Editor’s Note: An early version of this article incorrectly identified Glastonbury’s first-ever festival appearance. She appeared at Coachella and Bonnaroo in 2008. However, Glastonbury does mark her first-ever headlining performance at a festival.
