On April 8th, Colin Stetson will release a new album, though the music therein is not exactly his. Instead, SORROW is a reinterpretation of a piece of music that impacted Stetson greatly: Symphony No. 3 by Polish composer Henryk Górecki. Featuring contributions from Sarah Neufeld, Rebecca Foon, Liturgy drummer Greg Fox, and others, the new arrangements utilize woodwinds, synths, and electric guitars alongside more classical orchestral instruments.

Today, the saxophonist has shared “Sorrow III (Extract II)” from album. “In the third and final movement this is the final refrain,” Stetson explains in a press release. “A peaceful lament and an immaculate beauty, I have reveled in it for years and still find its gravity inescapable. By his explanation Gorecki’s Third Symphony is an evocation of the ties between mother and child.”
