If you’ve got even one ounce of sympathy for the devil, you’ll likely care a great deal for Jeremy and the Harlequins’ new single “No One Cares”, which gleefully riffs on Beggars Banquet-era Stones and doesn’t get too down about its own nihilistic worldview. Looking to capitalize on the momentum of last year’s debut, American Dreamer, the New York five-piece wants nothing less than to lead a full-blown rock ‘n’ roll revival — and they’re kind of on the right track. The E Street Band’s own resident bandana prince, Steve Van Zandt, has gone to bat for the group, who aren’t shy about embracing their scuzzy New York City heritage (you might even hear “No One Cares” if you dine at a certain airport restaurant, though dear lord let’s hope not).
Jeremy and the Harlequins are led by Jeremy Fury, who has a very good name and a bone to pick with the limp-ass state of rock music in 2016. “When Paul McCartney can’t get into a Grammys after-party, what does that say about the state of rock ‘n’ roll?”, Fury asks rhetorically. “No one cares? We do. And this song is about bringin’ that energy back.” Mission accomplished, gents.
“No One Cares” will be featured on the band’s forthcoming second album, Into the Night, but you can listen in to the track below. If we might be so bold as to make a suggestion, this particular vintage pairs exquisitely with a black leather jacket and a bad attitude.
