Neko Case, k.d. lang, Laura Veirs share joyful new song “Best Kept Secret” — listen

on March 28, 2016, 11:10pm

case/lang/veirs is the new collaborative album from Neko Case, k.d. lang, and Laura Veirs, due out later this spring through ANTI- Records. The 14-track effort, produced alongside Tucker Martine at Veirs and lang’s Portland homes, was reportedly inspired by “a supermoon, the tumbledown story of 70s singer Judee Sill, and the ‘best kept secret’ in Silver Lake.”

That LA delight is the focus of the trio’s latest offering “Best Kept Secret”, which received its premiere via Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter newsletter today. From its enchanting harmonies to the saccharine chorus, it’s a song that, although mellow in delivery, seems to be bursting with outright glee.

“It was done in one or two takes, and it went down super-fast,” lang stated in Lenny Letter. “We were all dancing. It just had so much joy. Then Neko came up with that ba-da-da ba-da-da ba-da-da ba-da-da. It just kind of unfolded in this really joyful, celebratory way. I wasn’t a huge fan of it in the demo stage. It was kind of straightforward. I was wrong. It tracked really well and it is super-joyful.”
