RY X doesn’t have the kind of voice that can take over a room. His is more likely to draw you in slowly, making the room shrink until it’s just big enough for two. The Australian singer-songwriter, whose real name is Ry Cuming, has been around for a while and made lots of fans where it counts. None other than Oscar-winner Sam Smith covered his song “Berlin” for the BBC, and RY X’s other projects include collaborations with Frank Wiedemann (Howling) and DJ Adam Freeland and Steve Nalepa (The Acid).
To call RY X’s debut full-length, Dawn, highly anticipated would be to risk understatement. He only added to the excitement with “Only”, an intimate, goosebump-inducing track that takes over the conscious gradually. It’s a remarkably lush arrangement, especially considering that “Only” was recorded live to tape at LA’s Pulse Studio and with RY X playing every instrument. Listen below.
Dawn will be out on May 6th via Loma Vista.
