Someone phone Executive Editor Adam Kivel: The ever insatiable Tom Hanks returns to theaters next month for Run Lola Run director Tom Tykwer’s highly anticipated dramedy A Hologram for the King. Based on Dave Eggers’ novel of the same name, the story follows a down-on-his-luck American businessman who heads to Saudi Arabia to land a lucrative deal.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“In Tom Tykwer’s wryly comic adaptation of Dave Eggers’ novel, Tom Hanks stars as a struggling American businessman who travels to Saudi Arabia to sell a new technology to the King, only to be challenged by endless Middle Eastern bureaucracy, a perpetually absent monarch, and a suspicious growth on his back.”
Once again, Hanks has surrounded himself with an impressive cast, specifically: Ben Whishaw, Sarita Choudhury, Alexander Black, Sidse Babett Knudsen, and Tom Skerritt. The film will initially premiere at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival next month with an official release to follow on April 22nd.
