Radiohead fans receive mysterious “Burn The Witch” leaflets

on April 30, 2016, 1:14pm

Radiohead work in mysterious ways, and that was again made evident by the events of today. As Pitchfork points out, the band has apparently mailed out cryptic leaflets reading, “Sing a song of sixpence that goes/ Burn the Witch/ We know where you live,” with an embossed Radiohead logo and artwork that currently appears on the band’s Facebook and Twitter pages. “Burn the Witch” is the name of an unreleased Radiohead song dating back to the mid-2000s.

The leaflets were sent to UK-based fans who had previously purchased merchandise through the band’s website.

We reached out to representatives of the band for comment and will let you know if we hear back.

What we do know is that Radiohead are close to releasing their ninth studio album. Earlier this month, a member of the band’s management team told fans that the as-yet-untitled LP was scheduled for a June release, though those comments was later disputed by a representative of the band.

Update: As Stereogum points out, in Germanic folklore, Walpurgisnacht — or “Witches’ Night” — falls on either April 30th or May 1st. Additionally, International Dawn Chorus Day is held on the first Sunday in May, which also happens to be tomorrow, May 1st. If you recall, Radiohead recently formed two companies, Dawn Chorus LLP and Dawnchoruss LTD, in anticipation of the album’s release. Could tomorrow be the day? Stay tuned!

Radiohead are set to kick off a world tour next month.
