Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, is making a horror film. In retrospect, this shouldn’t really come as a surprise; after all, she’s performed in bloody outfits and written songs like “Psychopath”, “Severed Crossed Fingers”, “Laughing With a Mouth of Blood”, and “The Apocalypse Song”. Hell, the video for “Cruel” is terrifying enough to qualify.

Nevertheless, Clark will be one of a handful of female visionaries offering their unique brand of terror for XX, a forthcoming horror anthology film that will tell “four deadly tales by four killer women.” The Invitation director Karyn Kusama, who’s one of the four filmmakers, confirmed the news on the Killer POV podcast.

“Jovanka [Vuckovic]’s film is finished. Mine is finished. I think we’re waiting on Annie Clark from St. Vincent, who is now making her own films. She has a film in it,” she explained.

“The films are very different, Kusama added, “but there are overriding anxieties about female-ness to a degree. And I want to say body horror is a component. I remember my first idea I couldn’t do because not that it was… too similar, but thematically, we were treading in the same waters. [Producer] Todd Brown feels pretty certain that they’ll end up being natural thematic alignments.”

Clark’s segment, scheduled to film this spring, was co-written by genre maven Roxanne Benjamin,.

Magnet, who’s responsible for previous horror anthologies V/H/S and ABCs of Death, will distribute the film worldwide. Other contributes include Jennifer Lynch and Jovanka Vuckovic.
