Richard Linklater’s 2003 Jack Black-starring film School of Rock successfully made the transition to Broadway last December, and has been gaining traction ever since. On Tuesday, one of the production’s most notable fans got to join the cast on stage, as Stevie Nicks made a surprise appearance after curtain call.
Nicks was there to promote arts education in schools, and she joined the show’s all-kid band for a rendition of “Rhiannon”. “To be in the presence of these kids that are so amazing that honestly sometimes I close my eyes and I’m not sure that it’s not Fleetwood Mac,” she said. “It’s very trippy. They are so good.”
So good, in fact, that she even cautioned the Mac members to stay sharp or risk being replaced by the actors-musicians. “This little one here, she’s hired,” Nicks joked, referring to bassist Evie Dolan, who plays Katie in the show. “She’s totally hired.” The rest of the theatrical band consists of Diego Lucano (Lawrence on keys), Dante Melucci (Freddy on drums) and Brandon Niederauer (Zack on guitar).
