By all accounts, synth rock outfit Stone Cold Fox had carved out a promising path to success by the end of 2014. The four-piece, born and bred on both coasts, had two release under their belts, The Young EP and full-length debut Memory Palace, as well as tours alongside the likes of HAERTS, Mikky Ekko, and Echosmith. Still, they felt there was something missing: a solid understanding of their identity.

That’s where Tunnel Vision, their forthcoming EP, comes in. The five-track effort is likened to a roadtrip, “a collection of journeys” in which Stone Cold Fox venture out to discover who they really are when all the layers are peeled back and they’re forced to look in the mirror. Like any driver traveling over unfamiliar territory, the group’s recording process involved getting lost in their own questions and uncertainty — What’s their sound? What do they stand for?

Eventually though, they pushed past the pressure and doubt to find their way home. Tracks like the plucky and emboldened “Contagion”, the calming glow of “Morning Light”, and the epic, expansive closer “Polyethylene” served as their North Star.

Tunnel Vision was a self-discovery album for us,” frontman Kevin Olken Henthorn tells Consequence of Sound. “Getting there was such a push and pull, and that battling and overthinking in itself was a huge theme for the album. The struggle with self-doubt, self-worth and self-identity were the major drivers and I feel like overall it’s an album about overcoming these things.”

Tunnel Vision is set to drop on April 29th, but we have an advance stream of the EP below. Listen in.

Stone Cold Fox will celebrate the release of Tunnel Vision with a special show on May 7th at New York’s Mercury Lounge; find all the details here.
