Wolf Parade announce plans for new EP, Rocky Horror

on April 13, 2016, 2:25pm

Back in January, indie rock band Wolf Parade announced they were ending their five-year indefinite hiatus with plans for new material and a world tour. Today, in an interview with Exclaimthe Canadian band revealed details of its first release since 2010’s Expo 86, an EP tentatively titled Rocky Horror.

Dan Boeckner told Exclaim that the EP marks a significant departure from Wolf Parade’s normal sound, explaining, “There’s a heavy glam vibe on the new stuff… [one track] kinda reminded me of early Queen and The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack.” Boeckner also noted that although their Expo 86 era possessed a more prog rock sound, “this new stuff is comparatively really short… it’s pretty energetic. All the songs are really fast.”

In explaining the band’s decision to record an EP as opposed to a full-length record, Spencer Krug said, “That’s how the band started the first time around” as the band didn’t want to come “back with this huge statement, just an EP that we think is alright and we’ll go from there.”

Wolf Parade have yet to pinpoint a release date for the EP, but hope to have it out sometime in May to coincide with their already announced tour dates. Also in May, Sub Pop will reissue a deluxe version of Apologies to the Queen Mary.
