Brian Johnson sings on “Mr. Rock n Roll”, possibly his final song — listen

on May 17, 2016, 7:10pm

Brian Johnson’s days with AC/DC may be numbered, but the singer isn’t done being a rock god quite yet. Before being sidelined by a hearing condition and replaced by Axl Rose, Johnson entered the studio to record what could well be his final songs ever. He recorded two tracks with comedian Jim Breuer for the Saturday Night Live alum’s first record of heavy metal music, Songs From the Garage. The first of those songs, “Mr. Rock n Roll”, debuted today (via Rolling Stone).

“To me, Brian is the most powerful voice in rock & roll,” Breuer said of the collaboration. “He is also the funniest and most generous man I have ever known. I am still in awe of how he recorded the song and forever thankful.”

It’s clear Breuer takes great inspiration from Johnson when it come to his music, as the two trade vocals with almost imperceptible differences. Both screech in that shrill, door-busting voice as a guitar line very reminiscent of an AC/DC track chugs along underneath. “All rise up/ Got no mercy for the none believers/ They’ll never break my soul,” they sing in unison on the chorus. “All fired up/ Watch the flames rise up and I’m leaving/ Don’t you know, don’t you know I’m Mr. Rock n Roll.”

“Don’t ever underestimate someone’s ability to live for the moment,” Breuer says of the track. “At the end of the day everyone has a ‘Mr. Rock n Roll’ in them.” Listen below.

“Mr. Rock n Roll” is one of two tracks featuring Johnson on Breuer’s forthcoming Songs From the Garage, which is credited to Jin Breuer and the Loud & Rowdy. The disc is out May 27th, and you can find the album art and tracklist below.
