It’s been an exciting week for Halloween fans.
Director Guillermo del Toro tipped off the fun with an entire Twitter rant over the weekend detailing his love for John Carpenter. Then, Jason Blum dropped the biggest bombshell of them all on Monday night by announcing a new sequel to be executive produced by the one and only Carpenter.
Since then, the door’s been left wide open for all sorts of wild theories, mostly involving the big key question, “Who’s going to direct the damn thing?” We suggested five filmmakers on our own, shortly before word leaked that Blumhouse was talking to Hush director Mike Flanagan.
Now, it would appear one of our own suggestions is lobbying for the job. Director Adam Wingard, whose love for the franchise knows no bounds, has been mysteriously posting various Halloween-related tweets for the last day.
What started out as a few screenshots of the series…
…has since led to a curious tweet revealing a highly decorative “like” from Blum himself:
It’s very speculative stuff, to be sure, but there’s reason to believe the race for the director’s chair has only just begun. If you listen close enough, you can almost hear the collective gasp of horror fans everywhere.
