Miles Davis may no longer be with us, but that hasn’t stopped the jazz legend from collaborating with contemporary artists on a series of entirely new tracks. Pianist and producer Robert Glasper has put together a collection entitled Everything’s Beautiful, in which he reworks clips of Davis’ studio recordings and — with help from some special guests — creates entirely new songs. One of those songs is a sensual bossa nova version of “Maiysha”, and it happens to feature lead vocals from Erykah Badu.
Entitled “Maiysha (So Long)”, the song premiered via Rolling Stone. As RS notes, Glasper and Badu previously teamed up for a cover of Mongo Santamaria’s “Afro Blue”, a song also recorded by Davis sideman (and legend in his own right) John Coltrane. This new remix apparently stemmed from Glasper’s work on the soundtrack for Don Cheadle’s recent Davis biopic, Miles Ahead.
Everything’s Beautiful comes out May 27th, and other guests on the album include Stevie Wonder, guitarist John Scofield, and vocalist Bilal. Listen in to “Maiysha (So Long)” below.
