Fred Armisen debuts fictional Southern rock band the Harkin Brothers on SNL — watch

on May 23, 2016, 10:15am

Fred Armisen has quietly become the world’s preeminent creator of fake bands, writing songs for such nonexistent entities as The Blue Jean Committee, the Fingerlings, and Ian Rubbish and the Bizzaros. The former Saturday Night Live cast member returned to his old stomping grounds as host this weekend, and between interviewing Paul Simon and parodying Dead Poets Society, he made time to debut his latest fictional band: the Harkin Brothers.

Armisen’s Arkansas-based Southern rock ensemble features Portlandia co-star Carrie Brownstein along with what looks to be most of the SNL cast — including some key alums. Maya Rudolph makes her presence known on backup vocals, but Andy Samberg, Larry David, Jason Sudeikis, and plenty of others can also be spotted jamming behind Armisen. Check out the video above.
