Apparently, Warner Bros thinks the world needs another reimagining of Ocean’s 11. The “word on the street” is that the studio is piecing together a reboot of sorts involving Steven Soderbergh’s hit-or-miss Ocean’s Trilogy, only they’re tearing off a page from Sony’s not-at-all polarizing decision to remake Ghostbusters with an entirely female cast.
The idea would be to pair up Jennifer Lawrence and Sandra Bullock, who would lead nine other A-list female celebrities in another caper. What’s more, Lawrence would get to reunite with her Hunger Games writer and director Gary Ross, who would work from a script by Queen and Country screenwriter Olivia Milch.
Unlike Ghostbusters, however, this wouldn’t be an all-out remake. (If only Paul Feig had made that wise decision.) Instead, it’s going to be a continuation of the original trilogy with Bullock playing the ex-con sister of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean. The prize in question? A necklace from the Met Ball.
Granted, it’s been a few years since I’ve caught any of the films on TNT or cable television, but I don’t ever recall Ocean mentioning any family of his from the past. Then again, when has that ever stopped Hollywood from overwriting a story? Anyone who’s ever seen a horror sequel knows that anything goes.
Nevertheless, if all goes to plan, shooting would begin this fall.
