Red Hot Chili Peppers to release new single “Dark Necessities” this week

on May 02, 2016, 12:40pm

Back in March, Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis revealed that the band was “in the home stretch” of finishing up their new album, the long-awaited follow-up to 2011’s I’m With You. Come this Thursday, May 5th, fans will be able hear their first preview of that record with new single “Dark Necessities”.

RHCP took to Twitter this morning to share the good news; more details regarding the single (and perhaps the LP?) will be revealed following the track’s premiere according to sources close to the band (via Radio.com). “Dark Necessities” marks the Peppers’ first official single in about five years, though music lovers will be delighted saddened to know that the track likely won’t be related to Flea’s recent bass-centric cover of the National Anthem.

While many details regarding the new album have yet to be revealed, we do know that Danger Mouse has production credits and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich was brought in to mix. It’s also the first Peppers’ release not produced by the renowned Rick Rubin since 1989’s Mother Milk.
