Spoon perform new song, cover David Bowie and Prince — watch

on May 26, 2016, 12:28pm

It’s been about six months since Spoon performed together, but that doesn’t mean the band members haven’t been working. Over the weekend, Britt Daniel and Alex Fischel performed an acoustic set at Mexico City’s Festival Marvin. During the show, the pair debuted a brand new song apparently called “I Ain’t the One”. It’s hard to tell what the track might sound like as a full band piece, but the duo presented it as a lightly droning number based on heavy keyboards and a steady pulsing beat. Check out video of the performance above.

At the end of their set, Daniel and Fischel also paid tribute to two of rock music’s recent fallen greats. They covered David Bowie’s “I Can’t Give Everything Away” from ★ (Blackstar) as well as Prince’s “Under the Cherry Moon”. Watch clips of both those covers below. (Daniels previously covered Bowie’s “Never Let Me Down” earlier this year.)
