The Claypool Lennon Delirium share “Cricket & The Genie (Movement I, The Delirium)” lyric video — watch

Can two people constitute a supergroup? Regardless of such technicalities, it sure feels like The Claypool Lennon Delirium are something more than just another psychedelic band. The duo is comprised of legendary Primus bassist Les Claypool and Sean Lennon, son of John and Yoko Ono and one half of psych-pop duo The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. “Sean is a musical mutant after my own heart,” said Claypool. “He definitely reflects his genetics — not just the sensibilities of his dad but also the abstract perspective and unique approach of his mother.”

That’s all Claypool needed to know before he signed on to write songs with Lennon in The Claypool Lennon Delirium. He describes their collaboration as “a glorious freak stew,” which feels like an uncannily accurate description after listening to their first single, “Cricket & The Genie (Movement I, The Delirium)”. This one might be destined for the radio, but its heart is in a far weirder place. Claypool’s galloping bassline propels the song forward while Lennon spins a tale of prescription pill addiction, pausing every so often to let the groove take over.

Quietly released back in January, “Cricket & The Genie (Movement I, The Delirium)” will appear on The Claypool Lennon Delirium’s upcoming full-length release Monolith of Phobos, due out June 3rd via ATO Records. Listen in to the song via a trippy lyric video above.
