The National unleash their inner Deadheads with cover of “Morning Dew” on Colbert — watch

on May 10, 2016, 9:20am

The National helped curate Day Of The Dead, a massive Grateful Dead tribute album that features 59 songs spanning over six hours. When the band visited the Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, they didn’t have time to play all those songs (they’re saving that for Eaux Claires in August), but they did regale Colbert’s audience with a brilliant cover of the Dead’s “Morning Dew.”

Day Of The Dead, which National bandmates/brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner spent years putting together, features a truly insane cast of musicians and will be released May 20th via 4AD. Both Dessners served as producers on the album, and also led a house band featuring fellow National bandmates Scott and Bryan Devendorf, Sam Cohen, Josh Kaufman, and Walter Martin.
