Wolf Parade haven’t released a proper collection of songs since 2010’s Expo 86, but it looks as if they’ll return from their lengthy hiatus next week. As Stereogum points out, a new listing has popped up on Amazon noting that a new
, self-titled EP is due out on May 17th via the band’s own Wolf Parade Productions. This is likely no mistake, as that’s the same date the band is scheduled to play their first show in five years at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom.
Update (05/13 12:00 PM): Wolf Parade have confirmed the release of the new EP for May 17th via their own Wolf Parade Productions. Though officially untitled, it’s being listed as EP 4. You’ll be able to snag the four-track effort on most streaming and downloading services next week; a limited-edition 10-inch vinyl version will also be available at the band’s shows and website. The band is scheduled to perform some of the new material during a May 20th appearance on The Late Show.
In an interview with Exclaim last month, frontman Dan Boeckner let fans know to expect something sort of different this time around. “The stuff we’ve been coming up with is pretty different than the stuff we left off on,” he explained. “There’s a heavy glam vibe on the new stuff… kinda reminded me of early Queen and The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack.” You can hear 30-second previews of each song on Amazon.
Whether or not these new songs scratch your Wolf Parade itch, fans of the band’s older stuff still have the deluxe reissue of the band’s 2005 debut, Apologies to the Queen Mary, to look forward to on May 13th.
