Aphex Twin is set to drop his Cheetah EP on July 8th via Warp Records. He’s so far previewed the effort with “2X202-ST5” and “CHEETAHT7b”, as well “CIRKLON3 [ Колхозная mix ]”, which was accompanied by his first music video in 17 years. However, attendees at the 2016 Summer NAMM Show (National Association of Music Merchants) got an extra special look over the weekend.
As reported by Synthopia, Aphex Twin had a booth set up at the show. In addition to showing off the actual rare (and notoriously unmanageable) Cheetah MS800 synthesizer Richard D. James used to painstakingly create Cheetah, he also had the EP available for attendees to have an advanced listen.
Still, the most interesting thing about the booth might be how it — and all aspects of the EP’s promotion, really — mirrored the original advertising material for the actual MS800. Even the initial press release was styled after the instrument’s user manual, which Warp had printed out at NAMM. Below, watch a video of Warp rep Hannah taking Synthopia through the details of the show booth.
