Neil Young duets with Jimmy Fallon’s “Neil Young” on The Tonight Show — watch

on June 22, 2016, 10:25am

Jimmy Fallon has impersonated many musicians over the years, but perhaps none better than Neil Young. He somehow made a Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young cover of “Fancy” completely work, and his duet with Bruce Springsteen on “Whip My Hair” was nothing short of magic. Of course, no appearance proved his mimicking mastery more than when he was joined by the actual Neil Young to perform “Old Man” early last year. Last night, the Youngs reunited on The Tonight Show, debuting a new duet most fittingly called “Two Neil Youngs on a Tree Stump”.

The real Young is making his rounds promoting his new “live” album EARTH, so it’s no surprise that “Two Neil Youngs on a Tree Stump” is an environmentally conscious tune. “We’re two Neil Youngs/ Sitting on a tree stump,” the pair sing in shockingly similar unison. “Used to be a tree trunk/ But look at what we’ve done/ Said the father to the son/ The leaves on the trees had to leave/ And the air that we breathe is gone.” Consider it a warning from the future about how we care for our planet… or just a wacky game of dress up between a comedian and a rock icon, either way.
