Actor Anton Yelchin was killed early Sunday morning in a fatal traffic collision. He was 27 years old.
According to TMZ, Yelchin’s body was found pinned between his car and a brick mailbox at his home in San Fernando Valley. Police say the engine was running when his body was discovered, and the car was in neutral. At this time, it’s unclear how exactly Yelchin’s body became pinned.
Born in Leningrad, Soviet Union (now Saint Petersburg, Russia), Yelchin began acting at the age of 9. His first major role came in 2001, starring opposite Anthony Hopkins in Hearts in Atlantis. The following year, he starred in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi television series, Taken.
In 2006, Yelchin appeared alongside Emile Hirsch, Justin Timberlake, and Ben Foster in the critically acclaimed crime drama Alpha Dog, and he played the titular character in Charlie Bartlett. He was subsequently cast as USS Enterprise’s navigator, Pavel Chekov, in the latest Star Trek movie franchise. More recently, he starred in Green Room, which Consequence of Sound named as one of best films of 2016 so far.
