Red Hot Chili Peppers share video for “Dark Necessities” directed by Olivia Wilde — watch

on June 16, 2016, 2:35pm

Red Hot Chili Peppers have had a stressful few months — from a health scare with frontman Anthony Kiedis causing the cancellation of shows, to severe lightning taking place at the German rock festival they headlined, to Kiedis actually saving a baby’s life while filming a segment of  “Carpool Karaoke” with James Corden.

Today, the band finally gets a chance to have some fun and let loose in the video for “Dark Necessities”, off their upcoming record The GetawayDirected by Olivia Wilde (naturally), the clip offers a whole platter of visual treats — Kiedis hops around as if prepping for a fight, Flea shows off his flexibility (check out the 3:20 mark) and later plays bass while looking somewhat comfortable in a sink. And when shown all together, the four members look like elated teens who have the house to themselves. All the while, a crew of female longboarders skate the deserted streets at night, shotgunning beer and flashing their inner lip tattoos.

Towards the end, the four really rock out (there’s some intense head banging) and dance along to the funkified bass line that soon fades out as Kiedis is show opening his eyes, giving viewers a “wtf just happened” expression before the screen goes black.

Watch the video for “Dark Necessities” above. The Getaway arrives tomorrow.
