Vinyl Thief premiere new single “Here In The Moment” — listen

on June 13, 2016, 10:40am

Indie pop band Vinyl Thief delivered their full-length debut Fathoms back in 2014 — but they don’t want to live in the past, they prefer the present. Such a lifestyle is best illustrated on their new single “Here In The Moment”, off their upcoming EP Touch out July 8th.

The Nashville outfit’s latest offering suggests sonic similarities to M83 at times, as the song creeps on with electro-pop inspired background beats while vocalist Grayson Proctor reminds listeners of the inherent beauty and power of living in the moment.

“I started ‘Here In The Moment’ on a night when I was feeling completely overwhelmed, and I couldn’t get myself centered,” Proctor tells Consequence of Sound. “The song is me working through that by stripping away everything to focus on the love.”

Being in love is the somewhat specific moment the song centers on — though less clear is if Proctor is declaring love for a person or a point in time. He speaks of a “you” and sings on the chorus that, “Here in the moment, I’ll open my whole world for you/Here in the moment, I need to rest my eyes on you/And in the moment, I want to capture all of you.”

As the song goes on, Proctor weighs the risk of remaining stationary in time, though quickly decides, “I’ll roll the dice/Freeze me in this point in time/I can’t risk just flying by.” And whether intentionally or not, as the song reaches its end it transcends Proctor’s own narrative and seeps into the personal narratives of those listening, as if encouraging them too to wish for the serenity of stagnancy. As a whole, “Here In The Moment” is an inspiring reminder to take risks, while taking it all in.
