Desiigner proves his haters wrong on “Tiimmy Turner” — listen

If you’re a believer in the infinite parallel universes theory, then we’re definitely living in the most improbable timeline. Before today, that would have been impossible to prove. But now that we live in a world where the studio version of Desiigner’s “Tiimmy Turner” exists, it’s unavoidable.

To recap: a young rapper became an overnight star for stealing Future’s entire life, getting endlessly mocked in the process. His haters who decried him as a talentless mimic following “Panda” seemed to be vindicated by a lackluster debut mixtape and a confounding/bewitching “freestyle” where he kinda rapped but mostly snapped along to a chant about a Nicktoon. Then, he took that freestyle and flipped it into a great rap single.

Don’t get us wrong, Desiigner still sounds a lot like Atlanta’s favorite son. But for once he’s made a song that Future couldn’t. Hendrix is obsessed with the dark side of drugs and partying, ruining the illusion of glitz and glamour quicker than reaching down and touching the floor at a strip club. In contrast, “Tiimmy Turner” is all about ascension. It sounds like what plays at the gates of Trap Heaven. Even if you’ve already formed an opinion on Desiigner, do yourself a favor and give it a listen up top.
