Father John Misty covers the Squidbillies theme song — listen

on July 07, 2016, 12:35pm

Squidbillies is one of those shows I just don’t understand how it’s still on the air. I mean, Cartoon Network is certainly known for its outrageous, esoteric programming, but a show about hick mutant squids just never appealed to me. But clearly it appeals to plenty others, as it’s not only about to enter its 10th season, but the network has managed to tap a whole slew of big name musicians to cover the cartoon’s theme song.

Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten, the B-52’s, and Jimmy Cliff are just some of the artists set to reinterpret the country theme, but the honor of singing it on the season premiere has gone to Father John Misty. His version will air ahead of the July 10th episode, but you can listen to it ahead of time above.

Neko Case, Band of Horses, Jayhawks, and Widespread Panic previously reworked the song for past seasons. Listen to the original theme below for comparison.
