Lollapalooza Colombia canceled after Rihanna pulls out over fears of Zika virus

on July 02, 2016, 3:05pm

Lollapalooza’s foray into Colombia has hit a seriously snag as its inaugural festival in the country has been canceled.

La Tercera reports that organizers pulled the plug after the festival’s headliner, Rihanna, canceled over concerns of the Zika virus.

In an issued statement, Lollapalooza organizers said they did not have enough time to find a replacement headliner. Ticket refunds are being offered.

Set for September 17th – 18th in Bogota, Lollapalooza Colombia was also to feature performances from Lana Del Rey, Disclosure, Cage the Elephant, Anderson .Paak, Silversun Pickups, Matt and Kim, and The Chainsmokers, among others.

In recent years, Lollapalooza expanded from its longtime home in Chicago to stage new offshoot events in South American countries including Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. Additionally, Lollapalooza Berlin is set to take place September 10th – 11th. Organizers said they still hope to stage an event in Colombia in the future.
