Paul McCartney performs “Helter Skelter” with Bob Weir — watch

on July 18, 2016, 1:33am

For the first time, a member of The Beatles shared the stage with a member of the Grateful Dead.

During his concert at Fenway Park on Sunday night, Paul McCartney was joined on stage by Bob Weir. Together, they performed the Wings song “Hi Hi Hi” along with The Beatles classic “Helter Skelter”. During the latter, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski also appeared on stage, dancing and strumming along on air guitar.

Despite never collaborating, members of The Beatles and Dead long expressed admiration for each other’s music. The Dead frequently covered Beatles songs in concert. Additionally, Jerry Garcia tracked a solo rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine”, which Lennon personally thanked him for during a backstage encounter in the early 1970s. In the 1990s, McCartney released a Grateful Dead-inspired photo film.

Weir’s onstage appearance was part of a massive 39-song set. Check out the full setlist below.
