The Warriors will come out to play on television

on July 05, 2016, 11:22am

Walter Hill’s The Warriors is about to take over a new territory: television.

The Russo Brothers, who previously conquered the box office with 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Solider and this past May’s Captain America: Civil War, have agreed to adapt the 1979 cult classic into an hour-long dramatic series for Paramount and Hulu.

While there’s no director attached just yet, the two filmmakers will work with writer Frank Baldwin to “honor the original film while adding its own unique brand of grit, pulp, sex and violence,” according to Deadline.

The original film starred James Remar and Michael Beck and captured a terrifying night across New York City, where rival street gangs wage war on each other following the death of a charismatic leader.

No idea how this works in today’s day and age. In the meantime, check out an exclusive screening of the original film this month at Chicago’s Music Box Theatre as part of our swanky new midnight series.
