Unknown Mortal Orchestra resurfaced back in May with the release of standalone single “First World Problem”, the band’s first new track since 2015’s acclaimed Multi-Love. Today, the song’s music video has arrived.
The video, which was directed by James Lees and choreographed by Kianí Del Valle, shows a couple passionately dancing as the scene (somewhat) seamlessly changes from their living room to a desolate desert. “I aimed to create a dialogue between two art forms — film and music,” Del Valle said of the video. “I wanted the video to be a response to the band’s lyrics and musical melodies, rather than showing literally what the song is saying. I am a big fan of silent films and how unspoken language can add a second layer to speech.”
