Barneys is selling obscenely expensive band t-shirts

on August 03, 2016, 4:35pm

Last month we learned that Justin Bieber’s new tour merchandise consists of repurposed Marilyn Manson t-shirts, slapped with a monstrous Barneys price tag of $195. Apparently, Bieber swag isn’t the only piece of pricey merch the luxury retailer has been peddling: They’ve got a whole line of obscenely expensive band t-shirts for Joy Division, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Pink Floyd, and Black Flag.

Manufactured by Madeworn, a majority of these “vintage-feel” threads — “crafted of washed and distressed faded black slub-knit cotton” — will set you back a solid $195. And to think, I was about to spend $17 on a Hot Topic band t-shirt … how plebeian of me. Well, uhh, at least Barneys’ stuff is made in the US?

It gets worse, though. The retailer’s Joy Division shirt (seen up top) and Black Flag shirt (seen below) fetch a jaw-dropping $225 and $265, respectively. Why? Something to do with decorative zippers (?) and a Japanese cotton-cashmere blend. Or perhaps they’re lined with specks of gold or dyed with the blood of a band member. Who knows.

Black Flag ($265):

In case you still have money in your bank account, here are more shirts for The Rolling Stones, Run-D.M.C., AC/DC, and The Doors.
