The trailer for Donald Glover’s new music-themed FX series Atlanta is finally here, and it’s looking like that rare kind of show that’s able to blend humor and drama without diluting either. Glover created and executive produces the show, in which he stars as a loner who returns to his hometown of Atlanta and wades into the local rap scene with his cousin, Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry). “The thesis with the show was kind of to show people how it felt to be black,” Glover (aka rapper Childish Gambino) explained at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I always want people to be scared because that’s kind of how it feels to be black.”
Check out the new trailer below. It’s soundtracked by Tame Impala’s “New Person, Same Old Mistakes”, the title of which may or may not be a clue.
