Last week brought the first glimpse of Arrival, the new sci-fi thriller from Sicario director Denis Villeneuve, starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. Ahead of the film’s November 11th release, Paramount Pictures has now unveiled the full-length trailer. Watch above.
In the film, Adams and Renner make up a team of scholars put together to investigate a foreign vessel’s mysterious landing to Earth. Adams plays a language expert named Louise Banks, while Renner portrays mathematician Ian Donnelly.
As the official plot synopsis notes, “Mankind teeters on the verge of global war as everyone scrambles for answers – and to find them, Banks and Donnelly will take a chance that could threaten their life, and quite possibly humanity.”
Along with Adams and Renner, Arrival stars Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbarg, Tiz Ma, and Mark O’Brien. Production costs for the film were around $50 million — for comparison, that steaming pile of garbage known as Independence Day: Resurgence cost $165 million to make.
Speaking to USA Today, Renner described the film as “if you blended a [Stanley] Kubrick and a [Steven] Spielberg movie,” instead of a “big Michael Bay alien movie.” He likened Arrival to films along the lines of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Contact.
Arrival will receive its worldwide premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month before opening worldwide on November 11th.
